ROUND 3: Melbourne Knights Outclassed as Avondale Cruise to 3-1 Victory

Zoran Juraj SABLJAK

Avondale FC maintained their perfect start to the season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Melbourne Knights at Tompsett Stadium last Friday night, in a match that highlighted the stark difference between the two sides’ early season form. The visitors controlled proceedings from the opening whistle, breaking the deadlock in the 26th minute. Their dominance was reflected in the statistics, with Avondale recording an impressive 23 shots on goal compared to the Knights’ mere five attempts.

Despite creating numerous chances, Avondale had to settle for a 1-0 lead at the interval. The second half saw them continue their assault on the Knights’ goal, finally extending their advantage in the 67th minute before adding a third in the 84th.

The Knights managed to salvage some pride through substitute Fraser Dunlop’s late strike, but it proved nothing more than a consolation as Avondale ran out comfortable 3-1 winners.

The result leaves Melbourne Knights with just one win this season, while Avondale’s unbeaten record remains intact. The Knights will look to bounce back when they travel to Jack Edwards Reserve this Friday, February 28th, to face Oakleigh Cannons in an 8:15 PM kick-off.
