A tense defensive battle unfolded at Cromer Park as Manly United and Sydney United 58 played to a scoreless draw in Round 3 of the National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW competition last Friday evening. Sydney United 58 established their attacking intent early, with Matthew Hatch creating dangerous opportunities in the opening minutes. His combination play with Stephan De Robillard tested Manly’s defence, but Bial Belkadi stood firm to neutralize these early threats. Manly United responded with their own offensive forays, as Ben Koop’s precise pass found American forward Lucas Meek, though Alessandro Lacalandra intervened decisively. Harry McCarthy later managed a deflected shot, but goalkeeper Josip Orlovic was equal to the task.
The match continued to see chances at both ends, with Lacalandra coming close in the 16th minute, his effort narrowly missing the target. Hatch similarly threatened later, beating his defender but pushing his shot just wide.
The second half began with immediate drama as Harry Van Der Saag’s quick free kick nearly caught Orlovic off guard. Late substitutes Peter Kekeris and Koko Farah injected fresh energy into Manly’s attack, while Meek came agonizingly close with a header that struck the crossbar. Manly thought they had found a winner through Taiga Kawano, but the offside flag denied their celebration. Final scores 0-0.
