ROUND 5: Three-Goal Knights Too Strong for Port Melbourne Sharks

Zoran Juraj SABLJAK

Melbourne Knights delivered a commanding performance against Port Melbourne Sharks at Tompsett Stadium last Sunday night, securing a convincing 3-0 victory in stifling hot conditions. Coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss to Oakleigh Cannons, the Knights were determined to return to winning ways and wasted no time asserting their dominance.

Fraser Dunlop got the home side off to a perfect start in the 4th minute, curling a left-footed strike that ricocheted off the upright and into the net. Before the celebrations had even subsided, Stephan Lawless doubled the Knights’ advantage just two minutes later. The forward headed home from close range in the 6th minute, giving the Knights a comfortable 2-0 lead that they maintained until halftime.

Any hopes of a Port Melbourne comeback were extinguished in the 50th minute when Ciaran Bramwell beat the Sharks’ defence and slotted the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs to make it 3-0. While Port Melbourne showed improvement in the second half, the damage had already been done.

The Knights now look ahead to their next challenge as they travel to face Green Gully at Green Gully Reserve this Friday evening March 14th, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30.
