After the Croatian-Australian Football Federation announced late last year that the Gold Coast Knights would host this year’s Croatian Football Tournament, preparations began in earnest!
Fourth time as Tourney hosts
This marks the fourth time in the Gold Coast Knights’ 45-year club history that they will host one of the largest events in the Australian-Croatian community calendar. Throughout their history, the Gold Coast Knights have successfully hosted the Croatian Football Tournament. They are determined to excel yet again.
“Our preferred dates aligned with the traditional King’s Birthday long weekend (2–5 October). However, two major football events – the Premier Invitational and UniSport Games – were already scheduled. This meant no available pitches within 30 minutes of the Croatian Sports Centre, and a shortage of referees. The committee decided to move the tournament forward to coincide with the AFL Grand Final weekend,” explained organisers.
GC Tourney to coincide with school holidays
Aside from scheduled public holidays in Victoria (Friday) and Western Australia (Monday), the tournament will take place during the middle of school holidays in Queensland and Victoria. It will also be around the start of school holidays in NSW, SA, ACT, and Tasmania. Be sure to mark your calendars for the Croatian Football Tournament during this time.
“Sunday’s finals schedule has been adjusted to conclude earlier than usual. This allows participants to enjoy the full tournament experience. It also ensures time for Monday work flights. For those staying, the club will host celebrations late into the night!” announced organisers on their official Facebook page. Updates will be shared there alongside Instagram coverage.
