VJESNIK STAFF: latest update pertaining to the Melbourne Knights.
The new board of the Melbourne Knights has promised to do its best to keep the club in the top flight of Victorian football.
Whilst no names have yet been revealed, the new board released a statement confirming that they will officially take over from June 13 (Sveti Ante).
The new board released a statement on the Knights website on Thursday night, and promised to ‘bring the club back to the people’, whilst paying tribute to Šime Pinčić’s outgoing board of the Melbourne Knights.
“We fully acknowledge the challenging position the club currently faces and are committed to doing our utmost to maintain our place in the top tier of Victorian football,” the statement said.
” Achieving this goal will require significant effort from all our members, supporters, and the Board. We must unite in our efforts to restore the Melbourne Knights to its rightful place as the premier football club in the State, irrespective of the on-field outcome this year.
“As a Board, we are dedicated to bringing the club back to the people and bringing the people back to the club.
“Effective leadership will require a strategic focus, strong communication, a commitment to actively listening to our members and supporters, and fostering a culture of transparency, trust, and accountability.”
Pinčić and the previous board announced their shock resignation at the start of the week after a disappointing start to the 2025 season.
It came just after the departure of Knights junior and one of the club’s favorite sons Ivan Franjić from the Melbourne Knights.
“We, the incoming Board, would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing Board for their dedication, hard work, and service to the Melbourne Knights football community. Your contributions have been greatly appreciated,” the statement said.
“We are truly honoured and humbled to have the opportunity to lead our esteemed club, which has been a cornerstone of our community and the broader football landscape in Australia for many generations, particularly the Melbourne Knights.
“The new Board will assume full control on June 13th (Sveti Ante), a day of special significance for our community. We will, however, have an active role in the club operations leading up to this date.”
The Melbourne Knights, who are bottom with nine points from 15 games, are away to second-place Avondale FC on Saturday.
