The Melbourne Knights Football Club has announced a significant leadership change, with the immediate resignation of President Simon Pinčić and the entire board, confirmed via an official statement released on the Melbourne Knights’ social media channels early this evening.
In the statement, the club reflected on Pinčić’s strong off-field leadership, which saw major infrastructure upgrades, the return of the junior programme to Somers Street, and the re-establishment of the Senior Women’s team.
The Melbourne Knights credited his efforts with helping deliver one of its strongest off-field years in recent history—achieving growth across corporate partnerships, junior registrations, match-day revenue, and community engagement.
Pinčić, who took on the presidency at the end of the 2023 season, brought more than 15 years of experience to the Melbourne Knights.
The statement acknowledged his collaboration with government and community partners to secure infrastructure funding and continue the structural reforms set in motion by former president Pave Jusup.
While recent on-field performances have been underwhelming, the statement made clear that Pinčić remained confident in the Melbourne Knights’ direction and had begun implementing plans to regain NPL Victoria status.
However, mounting internal pressures and differing views on the club’s path forward led to his decision to step aside for the sake of unity and progress.
The club emphasised that the resignations were not due to personal conflict, but a desire to allow the next leadership group to steer the Melbourne Knights forward with clarity and cohesion.
The statement comes just weeks after the resignation of head coach Ivan Franjić, further marking a period of major transition for the club both on and off the field.
