Croatians in Australia Celebrate Statehood Day with Pride

By Suzana Fantov reports on celebrations of Croatian Statehood Day

Croatians in Australia celebrated Croatian Statehood Day with pride. They marked this historic occasion across various cities, clubs, centres, parishes, and communities.

From the illuminated bridge in Brisbane to the flags fluttering at Federation Square in Melbourne, the celebrations were a vibrant display of Croatian heritage. The rich folklore in Perth, as well as the gatherings at the Croatian Catholic community of St. Nicholas Tavelić in Clifton Hill, showcased the unity and spirit of the Croatian diaspora.
Here’s a glimpse of what we’ve gathered from these memorable celebrations.

  • Dear Croatians in the Homeland and around the world, especially here in Australia, I congratulate you on the Statehood Day of the Republic of Croatia. I do this on behalf of the General Consulate of the Republic of Croatia in Sydney, as well as in my personal capacity.

Today, we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the constitution of the first multi-party Croatian Parliament. We also celebrate the collective achievements we have accomplished as a nation.

I would like to thank the office of the Mayor of Brisbane. The Mayor, at the request of the Croatian Consulate, agreed to illuminate the central city bridge, the “Story Bridge,” in the colors of the Croatian flag.

Long live our homeland, Croatia!
