Jeff Bezos relaxes on Croatian coast

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, one of the world’s richest individuals, has chosen Croatia as his summer holiday destination for 2025. Jeff Bezos seems to have a fondness for this picturesque country.

Superyacht Koru anchors near Split

Bezos’ impressive superyacht, Koru—valued at just under half a billion euros—was spotted anchored in Marina Kaštela near Split in early June. Alongside it was a support vessel equipped with a helicopter platform. This was intended for logistical needs and the discreet movement of Jeff Bezos and his entourage.

Before long, journalists captured images of Jeff Bezos strolling with his fiancée, American journalist Lauren Sanchez. The couple is set to marry on 24 June on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, near Venice.

Relaxing on the Adriatic ahead of the wedding

In the lead-up to their nuptials, they opted to unwind along the Croatian Adriatic coast. Their itinerary included a stop in Stari Grad on Hvar Island. There, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez dined at the renowned local restaurant, Kod barba Luke.

“They were very pleasant people,” said the restaurant owner, noting that the staff served Bezos and other guests with equal dedication.

A return visit to a favourite destination

This isn’t Bezos’ first Croatian holiday. Two years ago, Jeff Bezos was seen in the Dubrovnik area. A recent anecdote making rounds in the media sheds light not only on Bezos’ character but also on the unique charm and values of Croatian tourism.

During that previous visit, Bezos and friends cruised around Lastovo Island aboard the same yacht. Known for its remote location and low tourist density, Lastovo is a favourite among the wealthy for its peaceful coves and high-quality taverns.

Booking denied—Croatian style

One evening, the yacht anchored near Mrčara, a tiny islet next to Lastovo that houses a small konoba (tavern). Bezos asked his assistant to book a table for lunch the next day. At around midnight, the assistant called the owner, Krešo, to request a reservation for eight people at 5:00 pm.

“I told her thank you for the interest, but reservations must be made 7–8 days in advance for food. I could only offer a table from 4:00 to 5:00 pm for drinks, as we had other guests,” Krešo told a Split-based YouTuber, as reported by Croatian media.

Standing firm on tradition and fairness

Krešo explained the tavern’s strict rules. “They didn’t get food, not because we didn’t want to serve them, but because we stick to our principles. We prioritise both our regular and new guests who made earlier bookings. It would be foolish to break those principles. Therefore, all our guests are treated equally, no matter if it’s Jeff Bezos or anyone else,” he said.

Bezos calls it the highlight of the trip

Remarkably, Bezos and his group—including Lauren Sanchez, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Usher, and Derek Blasberg—returned the next day at the scheduled time for drinks. According to Krešo, they received the relaxed, respectful service they desired. They were treated like any other guest.

“When they were leaving, his agent told us Jeff said it was the ‘highlight’ of his entire holiday,” said the proud owner of the small konoba on the uninhabited island near Lastovo.
