Milanović earns junior club Sydney United $10k prize

Newly crowned A-League ‘Player of the Year’, Nicolas Milanović, this week returned to his junior club Sydney United. He handed over a $10,000 cheque as part of his winning prize.

The former United junior, who also had a short stint in Victoria with another Croatian community backed club St Albans Dinamo, recently became the first Australian Croatian footballer to take out the medal in the A-League era.

The newly signed Aberdeen attacker returned to his childhood junior club at Edensor Park last weekend. He met a selection of the juniors and presented a $10,000 cheque from major sponsor Isuzu Utes Australia.

“Congratulations to former youth player, Nicolas Milanović, on being awarded the prestigious Alex Tobin Medal. This medal recognized him as the A-League player of the year,” Sydney United stated in a post on their official Social Media platforms.

“As part of this amazing achievement, Milanović chose Sydney United as his youth club of choice. They received a $10,000 prize from Isuzu Utes Australia,” the statement continued.

Milanović started playing football at Sydney United at the tender age of four. He stayed at Edensor Park until he was 11 years of age.

Hasn’t forgotten his Croatian roots

An extremely proud young Australian Croatian, Milanović showed that he has not forgotten his roots. He nominated Sydney United as his choice for the money prize.

“I love this club, which is why I come back here to help when I can,” commented Milanović.

“So, giving $10,000 to them was a no-brainer,” he added.

“A true champion on and off the field. We’re incredibly grateful for your generosity. You’ve made the community incredibly proud,” concluded the official statement by Sydney United. They are $10,000 richer thanks to the now former Western Sydney Wanderer.
