The Hrvatski Vjesnik (Croatian Herald) will stage a major activation this weekend as part of the St Anthony Croatian Catholic Centre parish’s celebration of its annual feast day in Geelong.
The second edition of the popular Vjesnik Monthly magazine will be on sale at special popup stands following Sunday’s Church Service in front of the Holy Family Church in Bell Park, and later at the nearby Croatian Community Centre in Lovely Banks.
With church services not being celebrated in the neighbouring Croatian Catholic parishes in Melbourne, traditionally, hundreds of pilgrims from other Croatian Catholic centres and communities across Victoria converge on the annual Sveti Ante Mass in Geelong each year.
Following the Mass, many stay on either at friend’s houses or at functions at the two Croatian clubs in Geelong – if they are one of the lucky ones to be able to purchase a ticket.
Apart from the luncheon at the Croatian Community Centre, another popular lunchtime event is staged at the Croatian Dom, just a couple of hundred metres down from the Holy Family Church. And just like the Centre, it too is often sold out well in advance.

The Editor in Chief of the Hrvatski Vjesnik, George Sabljak, is inviting all Croatians in Victoria to head down to Geelong this weekend.
“Join us this Sunday, as we celebrate Sveti Ante in Geelong and help strengthen the future of our Croatian community,” urged Sabljak.
The Vjesnik editor urged everyone to attend the masthead’s activation in front of Holy Family Church and later at the Croatian Community Centre Geelong.
“Look out for our special Vjesnik marquee – where you can register and subscribe to have each monthly issue delivered straight to your door,” he said.
