The tradition of processions marking the feast of Our Lady is deeply rooted in Croatian Catholic heritage. These solemn processions, which for centuries have represented an expression of deep devotion and community spirit, form an essential part of celebrating one of the most important Marian feasts in the Catholic calendar.

A sacred journey renewed
This year, with great pride and joy, one of these significant processions is being revived in the Australian-Croatian community. The procession will commence from the grounds of St Albans Dinamo football club and proceed ceremoniously towards HKC Sunshine, thus connecting the faithful in a unique expression of shared belonging.

Community invitation
The faithful are invited to join this special occasion in the greatest possible numbers, as it revives an ancient tradition and strengthens ties with the religious heritage of our ancestors. The procession presents an opportunity for communal prayer, reflection and the expression of reverence towards the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Fellowship and faith
Following the conclusion of the procession and holy mass at 12:30, a communal lunch will be organised in the parish hall, providing an additional opportunity for fellowship.

Preserving heritage for future generations
The importance of preserving religious traditions in Croatian Catholic centres in Australia cannot be overestimated. These traditions form a bridge between generations, connecting us with our roots whilst simultaneously building foundations for future generations. We shall continue to report on these traditions related to the important feast of Our Lady, documenting how living heritage is transmitted through communities in the new homeland.

Faith that transcends distance
Processions such as this one at HKC Sunshine bear witness to the strength of faith that transcends distance and time, keeping alive those spiritual values that form the heart of Croatian identity. There will be more to say about this tradition on our pages.
