WA Croatian Community Centre celebrates 48th anniversary

The Western Australian Croatian Community Centre (Alfred Rd North Fremantle) is celebrating a significant milestone this year, approaching its golden 50th anniversary. As the centre marks its 48th birthday on August 6th, we extend our congratulations and share a message from their president.

President’s message

Anthony Sumich, President of the WA Croatian Community Centre (Inc), shared these reflections:

“On this day, 48 years ago, the WA Croatian Community Centre (Inc) was officially opened by His Grace Sir Lancelot Goody Archbishop of Perth. The club was built by its members for its members. To them, we owe our gratitude for their desire to have a place where fellow Croatians could enjoy their traditions and also have a place for future generations to be connected to their heritage.

To all the past committees that have served the community to keep the club opened, I sincerely thank them all. To the current committee I also would like to extend my thanks for your determination and commitment to the club and its prosperity.

It’s my firm belief that we all benefit enormously when our community centre prospers.

Our committee works everyday to keep our traditions alive for future generations. Thank you.”

A hub of Croatian culture

The centre serves as a gathering place for Western Australia’s Croatian community, where people come together to socialize and enjoy excellent cuisine. It’s particularly renowned for its Friday fish dinners and exceptional Dalmatian dishes. Regular visitors know just how delicious the homemade, traditionally prepared ‘peka’ is.

The venue hosts a variety of celebrations throughout the year – from holiday commemorations and memorial days to concerts and private family ceremonies. The dedicated work and activities of the community and volunteers over the years have shown remarkable results in preserving the community spirit and helping it flourish.

As the WA Croatian Community Centre approaches its 50th anniversary, it continues to serve as a vital link connecting Croatian Australians to their heritage while building bridges for future generations.
