The Gold Coast Knights launched their 2025 campaign in spectacular fashion, securing a convincing 3-1 victory over Lions FC in their season opener at home. The Knights dominated early proceedings, with their persistence paying off in the 38th minute when Tyson Martin rose highest to power home a header from a corner kick, giving the hosts a well-deserved lead heading into halftime.

Lions FC emerged from the break with renewed vigour and managed to level the score on the hour mark. However, their celebration was short-lived as the Knights reasserted their dominance through Ty Cobb, who restored the lead in the 71st minute. The highlight of the match came just four minutes later when Max Brown produced a moment of pure magic. His audacious free-kick from 40 yards out sailed into the net, leaving the Lions’ goalkeeper rooted to the spot and instantly staking his claim for goal of the year honours.

The 3-1 victory marks a perfect start to the Knights’ season, demonstrating their attacking prowess and title credentials. They’ll look to build on this momentum when they travel to face Wynnum Wolves this Saturday evening, March 1st, with kick-off scheduled for 19:15.
