The Croatian community on the Gold Coast came together in a vibrant and heartfelt celebration to honour their parish patron, Saint Leopold Bogdan Mandić and Mother’s Day. The festivities began with a solemn Holy Mass held in the chapel dedicated to the saint, St. Leopold Bogdan Mandić.

The Mass was beautifully led by Fra Ivica Pečnik, head of the Croatian Catholic Centre Blacktown (Sydney), with co-celebration by Fra Davor Dominović. Their spiritual guidance and meaningful homily brought comfort and inspiration to all gathered, as the community paid homage to their heavenly protector.

Following the Mass, the celebration continued at the Croatian Sports Centre with a festive community lunch. It was a joyful occasion, not only in religious spirit but also in honouring all mothers – from the youngest to the eldest – for their endless love, sacrifice, and strength.

A special blessing was given by Fra Davor during the lunch, with a touching tribute to two women representing the span of motherhood in the community: young Anna (28) and beloved Mira (91), whose presence symbolised the beauty of Croatian family life across generations.

The children were treated to a delightful soft-play setup courtesy of Little Explorers Playground, keeping them entertained and engaged while parents relaxed and socialised. The vibrant atmosphere reflected the unity and pride of the Croatian community, where faith, family, and culture are always at the heart of every gathering.

Organisers of the event extended their deepest gratitude to Fra Ivica and Fra Davor, as well as to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of the day.

“It was a true celebration of our patron saint and all mothers,” the organisers shared. “Thank you to all who joined us – we hope you left with full hearts and warm memories.”
