In a thrilling encounter at Frank Holohan Reserve last Friday night, Dandy City Hajduk and Preston Lions shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw that featured plenty of late drama.

The hosts dominated the opening exchanges, laying siege to the Preston goal in the first quarter-hour. However, against the run of play, the newly-promoted Lions struck first, taking the lead in the 26th minute and carrying their 1-0 advantage into the interval. The second half saw the weather take a turn as heavy rain forced spectators to seek shelter in the main grandstand.

The deteriorating conditions didn’t dampen the spirits on the pitch, though, as Hajduk mounted their comeback. Jamie Latham finally broke through for the hosts in the 77th minute, bringing the scores level and setting up an exciting finish. The momentum seemed to have swung decisively in Hajduk’s favour when returning captain Jack Webster, fresh from suspension, powered home a header in the 81st minute to put his side ahead 2-1.

However, Preston Lions showed their resilience, snatching a dramatic equaliser in the dying seconds of the match. For Hajduk, the draw will feel like two points dropped, having fought back from behind only to concede at the death. The result leaves them still searching for their first victory of 2025.

Dandy City Hajduk will look to bounce back quickly as they prepare for a highly anticipated local derby against Dandy Thunder this Saturday evening. The cross-town rivals will face off at George Andrews Reserve, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00.
