The Karlovac-based weapons manufacturer HS Produkt presented its new product, the Kuna Submachine Gun, which has been discussed for some time. This presentation took place at an arms and equipment fair in Zagreb Arena on Tuesday.
By Marko Barišić. In this article, we will explore the fascinating history and features of the new Kuna submachine gun.
The product is a submachine gun called “Kuna” (Marten). This weapon is sized between a rifle and a pistol. It is typically used by special military or police forces when conducting operations in confined spaces.
The Kuna submachine gun is a compact, small weapon with greater firepower, made from modern materials and using high-tech solutions.
“Last year we won a tender for the Brazilian military police, beating a submachine gun that has dominated the market for ten years,” said HS Produkt owner Željko Pavlin to Večernji list.

He noted that the Kuna submachine gun’s quality is demonstrated by interest from the American market—the largest in the world for such products. This interest is due to a substantial civilian firearms sector unmatched elsewhere.
That’s why we’re hopeful a compromise can be reached on customs duties,’ Pavlin concluded. Prior to this remark, he demonstrated the new submachine gun’s modular design. This is a compact, lightweight weapon that can be easily disassembled and fitted with interchangeable barrels. The design enables it to adapt to multiple ammunition calibers.
Pavlin’s company exports most of its weapons production to the USA. It will face significant problems if an acceptable solution regarding tariffs is not reached.
Many analysts believe that in the end, just as with medications, which will likely be exempted from tariffs, a similar solution will be found for these weapons. They are very attractive to Americans. This solution could also potentially protect the interests related to the Kuna submachine gun.

History of the Kuna submachine
Incidentally, the new Kuna submachine gun has only recently seen the light of day. Its photos appeared on the internet only at the turn of the year. It was first presented at a closed military fair in São Paulo, and then at fairs in Nuremberg.
These submachine guns were very widespread during both the First and Second World Wars. At the beginning of the Homeland War in Croatia, various versions of this weapon were produced, with the most famous being the “Ero.”
It was a variant of the Israeli Uzi, but with certain improvements, so some experts said it was even better. It entered serial production and was part of the equipment of the Croatian Army and police. Now the Kuna submachine gun has appeared, garnering praise from experts wherever it is presented.
It’s also important to note that Defense Minister Ivan Anušić promised state aid to Croatian weapons and equipment manufacturers, including HS Produkt. This aid will be provided if the problem with new American tariffs is not resolved satisfactorily.
