On Thursday, 15 May 2025, the Consulate General of the Republic of Croatia in South Melbourne hosted the final certificate award ceremony for Croatian language course participants. These courses were organised by Australian Croatian Community Services (ACCS). This special occasion brought together around twenty course participants to celebrate their remarkable achievement. They have been learning and preserving the Croatian language away from their homeland.

In a warm and festive atmosphere filled with pride, unity, and cultural connection, seventy students from various levels successfully completed this year’s programme.

Preserving Culture: A Ceremony of Pride and Achievement

In his welcome speech, the Consul General of the Republic of Croatia, Mr Joseph Gene Petrić, congratulated the participants for their dedication and interest in learning the Croatian language. He emphasised the importance of preserving and nurturing the Croatian language and culture among Croatian emigrants. He noted its preservation among descendants in Australia. Additionally, Mr Petrić expressed his full support for initiatives like this. These initiatives strengthen the ties with the Homeland. They pass on Croatian identity to future generations.

Special thanks were extended to the dedicated teachers who led the classes throughout the semester: Petra Markač, Maja Marcelić, and Ana Buljabašić. Their commitment, patience, and enthusiasm not only enabled students to acquire valuable language skills. They also provided deeper insights into Croatian culture, customs, and values. Each teacher brought her own unique approach to the classroom. This made lessons engaging, motivating, and closely tied to Croatian life and heritage.

Australian Croatian Community Services extends its gratitude to all students for their trust and effort in learning the language of their ancestors. Students are encouraged to continue speaking, learning, and preserving the Croatian language in the future. ACCS also thanks the Consulate General for their collaboration, hospitality, and generosity. This support made the ceremony a dignified and unforgettable event for all in attendance.

This event served as another reminder of the power of community. Additionally, it showcased the enduring importance of linguistic and cultural heritage that connects Croatians around the world.
