BREAKING: Luka Modrić set to join Serie A giants

Italian giants AC Milan are expected to sign Vatreni icon Luka Modrić, following his emotional departure from Real Madrid.

Rumoured to have reached a verbal agreement with the Rossoneri, a new chapter for Modrić in Serie A is anticipated to be announced shortly, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Leaving Los Blancos after an iconic spell that saw the 39-year-old lift six Champions Leagues, four La Liga titles and the illustrious Ballon d’Or in 2018, Modrić will follow in the footsteps of midfield greats such as Kakà, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf and Frank Rijkaard at the San Siro.

Making 57 appearances across all competitions for Real this season, Modrić displayed his permanent class throughout the campaign.

While arriving head coach Xabi Alonso was reportedly keen to extend Modrić’s contract, the veteran followed legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti out the door in the pursuit of a different scenery.

Pending to join the list alongside the likes of Zvonimir Boban, Dario Simić, Ante Rebić and Mario Mandžukić to represent the 19-time Serie A Champions, Modrić will be a welcome addition to the club after a disappointing eighth-placed league finish and defeat in the Coppa Italia Final.

Modrić’s childhood affection for Boban was said to be a decisive factor in the move, according to Marca.

This news comes after Modrić announced his ownership of Welsh-based English Championship side Swansea FC back in April, marking another significant move for the legendary playmaker.
