New Melbourne podcast set to take Croatian community by storm

A new Melbourne produced podcast, Podroom TV, is set to take the Croatian community by storm. The producers promise to tackle the key issues affecting our community in Australia.

Podroom TV, the brainchild of well-known Melbourne Croatian community identities, Anthony Smolić and Robert Špoljar, is expected to launch within the next few weeks on various Social Media channels. It was born from a desire to address the many issues impacting Croats Down Under. Thus, it brings Podroom TV into their lives.

“I’ve been thinking about it for awhile, and I had a little bit of downtime. I started thinking what can we do, possibly some sort of a podcast or something with a little bit of zafrkancija (mucking around),” explained Anthony Smolić, who is well known as a popular MC at the biggest community functions in Melbourne.

“Then I thought, you know what, I won’t be able to do it on my own. I would need a bit of a helping hand to co-host,” he continued, which inspired the idea for Podroom TV.

Reunited after ‘Knight Train’

“Spolj (Rob Špoljar) and I had a pretty good relationship and worked well on a previous podcast.”

The podcast in question was the immensely popular ‘Knight Train’ podcast. Here the Podroom TV idea originated from discussions. It was the official Melbourne Knights’ club podcast on the internet-based FNR Football Radio station in Melbourne several years ago.

“So, I reached out to him to see if he was available and sure enough he was. So we are now working overtime to get things happening,” revealed Smolić. He will be hosting the upcoming St Albans Dinamo 50th Gala Night in Melbourne. He will host alongside former SBS presenter and PR specialist Mariana Rudan.

“We need to get the technology right before we go live. We look forward to receiving questions from our viewers for our guests as they are announced,” continued Smolić. Podroom TV will incorporate feedback for an engaging experience.

“If we’re smart enough, we will even do live talkback if possible.”

No filters, no delays and no agendas!

According to Smolić’s co-presenter Robert Špoljar, who MC’ed last weekend’s spectacular Croatian Folkloric Arts Festival concert at Melbourne’s National Theatre, it took a few years for the duo to get motivated again.

“But, in the midst of what seems a community renaissance, this just feels like the right time to do it,” admitted Špoljar. He indicates a fresh approach for Podroom TV as he is well known throughout Australia as the lead singer of the popular Croatian cover band, Major Minor.

“However, this time is going to be a little bit different. There will be no filters, no delays and certainly no agendas,” he revealed, aligning with Podroom TV’s bold approach.

“We want to hear the viewers’ thoughts (respectfully of course) as we discuss everything and anything pertaining to our Croatian community. Football, folklore, music, faith, men’s and women’s issues, sport, finance, politics – the sky is the limit!” concluded Špoljar. This reinforces that Podroom TV aims to cover it all.
