Geelong teen called up to Cro national girls’ training camp

Geelong teenager Evie Stošić has been invited to attend a Croatian Junior Girls’ national football team camp in Croatia next month.

The extremely talented former North Geelong Warriors junior recently received an official invitation from the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) to participate in a Girls’ U16 National Team summer camp, to be held in Ivanić Grad from the 16th-19th of August.

Stošić, who holds dual Croatian and Australian citizenship, currently is playing for the Football Victoria Academy U15 girls in the Junior Girls’ NPL competition in Victoria.

Despite the fact that she is one of the younger members of the team – she will turn 14 at the end of this month – the former North Geelong junior has been appointed co-captain for her team this season.

According to Evie’s father Ante, the talented teen has already had several opportunities this year to play up in the Academy’s U17s’ team, and has attracted much interest from Croatian scouts.

“The Croatian national team coach for the women’s team asked Evie to participate in the Melbourne Knights’ diaspora camp earlier this year in January,” revealed Stošić Senior.

“From there, he has stayed in contact with us and invited her to the U16 girls’ national camp next month in Croatia,” continued Stošić, who is also the senior women’s team coach at the Warriors, where Evie’s older sister Zoe is a regular starter.

Evie Stošić first started playing at the Croatian community backed North Geelong Warriors in her hometown of Geelong. Her father Ante says she has always been driven and competitive and has already accomplished a lot for such a young girl.

Ante said that watching Evie play football at a very young age, he could see how much she loved the sport.

“She has always been very driven and competitive,” her father revealed.

“Evie has accomplished a lot for such a young girl and the whole family is very proud of her.

“She is very lucky in that she always had her brother and sister, who both play seniors soccer and cousins who also play soccer, so they would always be kicking around balls and playing mini games,” added Ante.

“As a coach myself, I have always told Evie that what you – as a player – do outside your normal training sessions, is just as important.

“She has taken on board this advice and you can see where it has taken her,” concluded Evie Stošić ‘s very proud father.

Despite the fact that she is one of the younger members of the team – she will turn 14 at the end of this month – young Evie has been appointed co-captain for her FV Academy team this season.
