Croatia’s military might on display

Croatia marked the 30th anniversary of Operation Storm with a spectacular military parade in Zagreb, showcasing the strength and modern capabilities of its armed forces. From state-of-the-art Leopard tanks to combat drones and a powerful Rafale flyover, the event drew thousands in celebration. This patriotic display highlighted national pride, military advancement, and Croatia’s continued commitment to defence excellence.

The Croats Clearly Know How to Do It Right

A spectacular parade was held in Zagreb to mark the 30th anniversary of Operation Storm. Everything worked perfectly, with the parade – as was fitting – led by war veterans carrying the flag from the Knin fortress.

A Parade of Strength and Unity

Behind them, in an impressive procession over three kilometres long, Croatian military units marched one after the other, equipped with Croatian weaponry. Then came the most modern military equipment, from Leopard tanks to Panzerhaubitze artillery and Patria armoured vehicles, rolling down Vukovar Street.

In this impressive column, more than three kilometres long, marched active-duty soldiers, war veterans, volunteers, conscripts, and cadets. Spectators were treated to the sight of Patria combat vehicles, PzH 2000 howitzers, and M-84 and Leopard 2A tanks – the latter not yet officially part of the Croatian Armed Forces.

Cutting-Edge Technology and Aerial Displays

The long-awaited Croatian combat drones also took flight, causing widespread excitement. Finally, the skies above the Croatian capital were pierced by Rafale fighter jets – and in what formation! It looked more like an aerobatic display team than combat aircraft.

Thousands of people followed the parade, unable to contain their excitement. There was applause, singing along with those who contributed musically to the celebration. In the end, one could sense pride on many faces.

A Showcase for the Nation and the World

The Croatian Army delivered a true spectacle. It presented its strength and power to both its citizens and the international public – in a respectful, dignified manner, yet firm and sufficiently cautionary to any potential adversaries.

Many familiar faces were present at the parade. Among them was the Croatian national football team manager Zlatko Dalić. Naturally, General Ante Gotovina, who led Croatian forces during Operation Storm, was also in attendance.

Symbols of Victory and Emotional Moments

Some veterans brought trophies from that magnificent military operation – including a sign with “Knin” written in both Latin and Cyrillic script, which they had taken while liberating that Croatian town.

“My heart is full, I have nothing more to say,” said one of them.

One truly special moment occurred when Thompson’s song “Ako ne znaš što je bilo” (“If You Don’t Know What Happened”) played over the loudspeakers. As many began to sing along, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković invited everyone on the main stage to stand. They did so and sang and clapped along to the rhythm of the song.

Leadership Reactions and Praise

“It seems to me that everyone is thrilled. People have seen how strong Croatia is today, 30 years after Operation Storm. My congratulations to everyone who took part,” said Plenković.

President Zoran Milanović, who gave the order for the parade to commence, stated that he was most impressed by the people – the ranks of Croatian infantry.

Croatian drones take the spotlight

The co-founder of the company Orqa, which manufactures combat drones, also commented. The United States, France, and several other countries have already signed contracts with the company for their purchase.

“We had the premiere display of Croatian combat aircraft produced by our company Orqa,” revealed Ivan Jelušić, adding: “The aircraft is purposefully designed for our end users – the Croatian Armed Forces. It can operate by day and night, and what’s most remarkable is that it is entirely made from components manufactured in Osijek.”

A fitting conclusion

In the parade, active-duty soldiers, war veterans, volunteers, conscripts, and cadets marched in perfect harmony. Everything concluded with an incredible fireworks display in the colours of the Croatian flag. The sky over Zagreb lit up.

An unbelievable day.
